Accredited First Financial
Accredited First Financial is
a mortgage lender in the greater DC area. Employing 5 on-site
employees but dozens of off-site
staff, AFF is representative of a unique environment which
lends itself to a SBS2003 and Windows 2003 environment.
The numerous remote loan officers they wanted to acquire
would need Accredited First email addresses, access to the
central office's files and use of industry-specific software.
Windows Small Business Server 2003 fulfilled the first two
needs, but remote access to applications, called Terminal
Services, necessitated the introduction of a second server,
this one Windows Server 2003 Standard.
Before their expansion, which was enabled by Work Consultants
installing two new Dell servers with Windows Server 2003,
AFF was posed to increase the number of their employees,
but did not want to move into a larger space. Their industry
makes it possible for employees to work remotely, and Microsoft's
Windows products allow their remote employees to seamlessly
work remotely.
AFF elected to use Microsoft Windows Small Business Server
2003 as their main server which provided e-mail, web and
firewall services to on-site personnel. However, SBS won't
allow for external employees to interact with on-site services.
For that, AFF needed a second, smaller server with Windows
Server 2003 Standard which provided Terminal Services--the
service that allows a user to access programs running on
the server from off-site.
